Reflection on John 13
by Abby Jordan
Do we believe what God has revealed about his character in John 13?
Do we believe that He loves us who, like the disciples, heed Satan’s promptings, deny Jesus, and flee into the night?
If so, then we have a calling.
A calling to willingly serve those who have hurt us, those we know will betray us. To not only wash their feet, but also wear the towel of the lowest slave.
Do we dare love that recklessly till the end of our time like Jesus?
We must because only then will we be known as true disciples. Disciples whose next steps are always down. Down before the cross and before others.
Do we have the faith to kneel and love each day, even when we cannot see or understand what He is doing?
In the face of fear, betrayal, pain, and parting, knowing that He was God’s and that God had put all things under his power gave Jesus the strength to kneel.
How blessed we are to serve a God who loves us to the very end. And in the end, I want the Lord to look at me and say “well done, my good and faithful servant.”
