Day 18 / Luke 13:20-21
By Audrey Hudson
This passage is describing how the Kingdom of God works. The love, joy, and peace that is in our hearts may start out small, but with time, it can grow and be spread to so many people around us. Jesus is describing that the kingdom of God is massive. The woman mixed the yeast in with tons of flour, and it probably took a while to fully leaven the batch of dough. God is going to show his love and care for us no matter what, and for some people it will take time to realize what he’s doing. Over time, the love will continue to grow in our hearts and we will be willing to spread the Kingdom of God through our words and actions. Just one small amount of yeast can eventually be spread through all of the dough, and one small amount of love can be spread through many hearts. Also, when you mix yeast through dough it is invisible. The Spirit works in powerful ways, and God works in us even when we are too blind to notice. Yeast makes the dough rise through the inside, and the Kingdom works through the inside of our hearts. Jesus wants us to know how powerful and mighty the work of God is, and how the Kingdom works through us to spread the gospel to those around us.
