“…equal concern for each other.”
Gift envy is real. It affects everyone of us. When someone else can do something that you can’t you find yourself not only longing for their gift but degrading your own. Other times the reverse is true. Our gifts and abilities become a means for constructing a platform upon which to display ourselves. Those giftings that we call “spiritual” are no exception. The comparison game is as easily played in church as it is anywhere else. Perhaps notably displayed by our assumption that some gifts are uniquely “spiritual.” God does not value us based on our gifts…he distributes them after all. And his giving of certain gifts to certain people is not an act of favoritism. Specific gifting is not necessarily even a sign of our faithfulness though everyone of us ought to be open to receive and to employ whatever He chooses to give for the purposes He chooses to give it.
