Discussion Guide for April 23, 2023
The Story
We will focus on Acts 2:1-47, the story of the Holy Spirit coming on the day of Pentecost. Please read the passage and be familiar enough with the details that you are able to tell the story without reading it. You do not have to retell the sermon in verses 17-35, but can recap it by saying something like, “Peter told them they are witnessing the prophecy from Joel being fulfilled and then went on to tell of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.”
Tell the story.
The group rebuilds the story.
Read the story.
Use the discussion questions to dig into the story and be introspective.
Prayers of God’s People
Prayer time focuses on praying for individuals in our church family. You have a list of church members to pray for. Every member of our church will be prayed over during this week.
Option 1: Play the song I Speak Jesus by Charity Gayle or The Kingdom Is Yours by Common Hymnal before speaking the names aloud. Both are prayers of intercession. The take turns reading the names of the members. When you are finished reading all of the names, say a general prayer for the group.
Option 2: Choose a few one-sentence blessings or prayers to pray over each name. Examples: May the Lord be near to you. May you be like a tree planted by streams of water. May the Lord give you the courage to surrender completely to him. May you know the Lord’s love for you. Read a name and say a one-sentence blessing or prayer. The blessing or prayer can be repeated many times for multiple people.
